Kidney (renal cell) cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the cells of the kidneys. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults, accounting for about 90% of all kidney cancer cases.
Renal cell cancer typically begins in the lining of small tubes in the kidney called tubules. There are several subtypes of renal cell cancer, including clear cell renal cell carcinoma (the most common subtype), papillary renal cell carcinoma, chromophobe renal cell carcinoma, and others.
