Cervical cancer is a kind of cancer that starts in the cells of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus (womb) that opens into the vagina (birth canal). It usually develops slowly over many years, beginning with small changes in the cervical cells that can turn into cancer if they are not found and treated. - Cervical cancer happens when cells in the cervix grow in an abnormal, uncontrolled way and form a mass called a tumor.
