Malignant mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer that primarily affects the lining of the lungs, but can also occur in the lining of the abdomen or other organs. It is most commonly caused by exposure to asbestos, a fibrous mineral that was commonly used in construction, manufacturing, and other industries until its harmful effects were widely recognized.
