Recurrent cancer refers to the return of cancer in someone who has previously been treated for the disease and was in remission. It is different from a new cancer that develops in a different part of the body.
When cancer recurs, it may come back in the same location as the original tumor or in a different area of the body. The recurrence can happen at any time, even years after the initial treatment.
