Squamous cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that commonly occurs in the outermost layer of the skin called the epidermis. It arises from the squamous cells, which are flat, scale-like cells that make up the outermost layer of the skin.
Causes:
- Chronic exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds is the most common cause of squamous cell carcinoma.
