Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) is a non-invasive form of breast cancer where abnormal cells are found in the lining of the milk ducts in the breast. "In situ" means that the cancer is confined to the milk ducts and has not spread to surrounding breast tissue or other parts of the body.
DCIS is usually detected through a mammogram and does not typically present any symptoms. It is considered to be a pre-cancerous condition, as it has the potential to develop into invasive breast cancer if left untreated.
