Hypopharyngeal cancer is a type of head and neck cancer that develops in the hypopharynx, which is the lower part of the throat or pharynx. It is relatively rare and accounts for about 5% of all head and neck cancers.
Causes: - Smoking tobacco or heavy alcohol use are the two most common risk factors for hypopharyngeal cancer. - Chronic irritation or inflammation of the throat, such as from acid reflux or a throat infection, can also increase the risk.
