Intraocular melanoma, also known as eye melanoma, is a type of cancer that begins in the cells that produce pigment in the eye. It is the most common primary cancer of the eye in adults.
The exact cause of intraocular melanoma is unknown, but risk factors include light-colored eyes, fair skin, and exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or artificial sources. It typically affects individuals over the age of 50, and there is no gender predilection.
