Nasopharyngeal cancer is a rare type of cancer that develops in the nasopharynx, which is the upper part of the throat behind the nose. It is most commonly found in the epithelial cells that line the nasopharynx.
The exact cause of nasopharyngeal cancer is unknown, but certain risk factors have been identified. These include infection with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), a family history of the disease, exposure to certain chemicals and toxins, and consumption of salt-cured fish and meats.
