Parathyroid cancer is a rare type of cancer that originates in the parathyroid glands. These are four small glands located behind the thyroid gland in the neck. The parathyroid glands produce parathyroid hormone (PTH), which helps regulate calcium levels in the body.
Parathyroid cancer is usually slow-growing and may not cause noticeable symptoms in the early stages. As the cancer progresses, however, it may lead to elevated levels of calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia).
