There wasn't aglitzy Las Vegas awards show this year because of COVID-19, but that didn't stop the NHL's best andbrightest from getting their hardware. The NHL startedhanding out its 2019-20 awards on Sept. 6, although we knew a few winners beforehand: Alex Ovechkin and David Pastrnak co-won the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy with 48 goals during the regular season. Edmonton's Leon Draisaitl , who later added the Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award to his trophy case, won the Art Ro s Trophy with an NHL-best 110 points. The Bruins goalie tandem of Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak snagged the 2020 William M. Jennings Trophy for fewest goals against. Sporting News has all the award winners below. King Clancy Memorial Trophy Awarded to the player who showsleadership on and off the ice and who has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community. The trophy winner is selected bya committee of senior NHL executives that includes commi sioner Gary Bettman and deputy commi sioner Bill Daly. Finalists: Matt Dumba (Minnesota Wild), Henrik Lundqvist (New York Rangers), P.K. Subban (New Jersey Devils) Winner: Matt Dumba A co-founder of the Hockey Diversity Alliance, Dumba has been vocal and involved in racial and social action initiatives. At the beginning of the postseason, he gave an impa sioned speech at center ice prior to the Oilers and Blackhawks playing in a qualifying game. He's alsospearheaded the Rebuild Minnesota initiative to a sist Minneapolis busine ses impacted by riots and protests in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. He's also donated to more than 60 families during the COVID-19 pandemic, Australia's wildfire relief and has played roles inACES (Athletes Committed to Educating Students) and Hockey Fights Cancer. "I don't want any of this to be swept under the rug," Dumba said on a call with reporters following the announcement. "This for me is not just a singular moment. It's all part of this journey that I'm committed to and I think I'm going to commit to this my whole life, so this is just the start." The second consecutive Minnesota Wild to win the trophy, Dumba will receive a $25,000 donation from the NHL Foundation and will split it between ACES and the HDA.Lundqvist and Subban will eachreceive a $5,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of their choice. Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy Awarded to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey as voted on by the Profe sional Hockey Writers A sociation. Finalists: Stephen Johns (Dallas Stars), Oskar Lindblom (Philadelphia Flyers), Bobby Ryan (Ottawa Senators) Winner: Bobby Ryan In November 2019, to enter the NHL/NHLPA player a sistance program to combat his struggles with alcohol abuse. and in his first home game on Feb. 27 scored an emotional hat trick. Since returning, he has shared his story to help and inspire others facing similar challenges. "Someone asked me (if I could sum up what this award means to me)at every step ... I still don't know," said Ryan on a Zoom call with reporters following the announcement. "It's something that I cherish. It's something that I really have to thank people for recognizing that I came out the other side and ahead of a battle that's been plaguing me for a while and it's going to continue. Jack Adams Award Awarded to the NHL's best head coach by the NHL'sBroadcasters' A sociation. Finalists: Bruce Stephen Strasburg Jersey Ca sidy (Boston Bruins), John Tortorella (Columbus Blue Jackets), Alain Vigneault (Philadelphia Flyers) Winner: Bruce Ca sidy Named on 82 of 132 ballots with 37 first-place votes, Ca sidy wins his first Jack Adams Award after leading the Bruins to the 2019-20 Presidents'Trophy. Boston was leading the NHL in points (100) and points percentage (.714) with a 44-14-12 record at the time of the coronavirus pause. The teamwas No. 1 in the league with a plus-53 goal differential, second on the power play(25.2 percent) and third on thepenalty kill (84.3 percent). Ca sidy's crew also boastedthe goalie tandem of Jaroslav Halak and Tuukka Rask, who won the William M. Jennings Trophy as the Bruins allowedthe fewest goals against. , Boston ranked third inpercentage of total goals off scoring chances (SCGF%) at 56.44. Afinalist twice in the last three years, Ca sidy is the fourth Boston coach to nab the award, joining Don Cherry, Pat Burns and Claude Julien. Vigneaultreceived 32 first-place votes (and 36 fewer points overall) whileTortorella had 28 first-place votes. Frank J. Selke Trophy Voted on by the PHWA, this trophy is awarded to the NHL's best defensive forward. Finalists: Patrice Bergeron (Boston Bruins), Sean Couturier (Philadelphia Flyers), Ryan OReilly (St. Louis Blues) Winner: Sean Couturier The Flyers center finished the 2019-20 regular season with 22 goals and 37 a sists in 69 games along with an NHL-best 59.6 percent efficiency in the faceoff dot. He was at 59.5 percent in the defensive zone,59.1 percent in the offensive zone and 60.4 percent in the neutral zone, making himthe only NHL player to top 58 percent in all three zones.Couturier alsoled Philadelphia in Corsi For percentage (56.25) andShots For percentage (55.30) and was third in Scoring Chances For percentage (54.43), . He wasnamed on 163 of the 170 ballots, including 117 first-place selections. "I've always taken pride in playing a solid 200-foot game,"Couturier said on a Zoom call with reporters. Lady Byng Memorial Trophy Awarded to the player who combines sportsmanshipand gentlemanly conductwith a high level of play, as voted on by the PHWA. Finalists: Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche), Auston Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs), Ryan OReilly (St. Louis Blues) Winner: Nathan MacKinnon The Avalanche's top points guy in the regular seasonwith 93 (35 goals, 58 a sists)in 69 games was only tagged for12 penalty minutes. He the third player in the last 20 years to collectmore than 90 points and 12 or fewer penalty minutes, joining Aleksander Barkov (2018-19: 96 points, eight PIM) and Martin St. Louis (2010-11:99 points, 12 PIM;2009-10: 94 points, 12 PIM). "I think it's just a line you need to hover on," he said when asked about how he plays an intense, aggre sive game yet doesn't get called for a lot of penalties. "I respect my opponents, I don't want to be dirty. I also want to be trusted by the coaching staff that I won't take penalties. I gue s, with my skating I try to use my legs to stick check and things like that and not take unnece sary minors. But, [I] never thought I'd win this award; usually, I get a few more minors than this. But, obviously, very honored. Some of the best players ever have won this award." Mark Me sier NHL Leadership Award Awarded to the player "who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice during the regular season." A Hall of Famer and six-time Stanley Cup champion, Me sier makes the final decision on who wins this award. Winner: Mark Giordano (Calgary Flames) The Flames captain just finished his 14th NHL season all with Calgary where heposted 31 points (five goals. 26 a sists) in 60 regular-season games. During the Flames' postseason which saw them beat the Jetsin the qualifying round before losing in six games to the Stars Giordano collected three a sists. Off the ice, the 36-year-old has built a strong connection with the community through charitable work, particularly in growing the game among youth. In 2014, he started "Team Giordano" to promote improved physical fitne s and academics, as well as leadership development, at high-needs schools in Calgary. He is also involved with the You Can Play Project Miguel Montero Jersey and the Calgary Flames Foundation. In May, that Giordano and his wife were helpingfamilies in need, including payinggrocery bills, during the COVID-19 pandemic. "This is special," Giordano said on a Zoom call with reporters after the announcement. "I'm a little bit older, so I grew up watching Mark Me sier as a player and remembering himespecially from his days as a Ranger winning the Stanley Cup with New York but also in Edmonton as well. To have my name on that award means a lot." "My wife, Lauren, and I have always been a couple who wants to give back and we feel like this community, this city has given so much to us and we wouldn't be where we are today in our lives if it wasn't for the city of Calgary and the people of Calgary. So we really wanted to get involved in the community and give back," he added. Calder Memorial Trophy Awarded to the NHL's best rookie. The PHWA votes on this award. Finalists: Quinn Hughes (Vancouver Canucks), Dominik Kubalik (Chicago Blackhawks), Cale Makar (Colorado Avalanche) Winner: Cale Makar Makar isjust the 12th defenseman to win the award; he received 116 first-place votes and 1,538 total points. He finished the 2019-20 season second among NHL rookies with 50 points (12 goals, 38 a sists) in 57 games. His0.88 points-per-game averageled all rookies and was Andrew Stevenson Jersey the third-highest by a rookie D-man in NHL history behind Brian Leetch (1.04 with the Rangers in 1988-89) and Larry Murphy (0.95 with the Kings in1980-81). Finalists: Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers), Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche), Artemi Panarin (New York Rangers) Winner: Leon Draisaitl The first German-born player to win the award, Draisaitl finished the truncated season with 110 points in 71 games, which were 13 points more than the next player his teammate Connor McDavid. He scored at least one point in 56 games and had 33 multipoint nights. Draisaitlled the NHL in a sists (67) and power-play points (44), finished tied for first with the Bruins' David Pastrnak in game-winning goals (10) and was second in power-play goals (16) andpower-play a sists (28). He is thefourth Oiler in franchise history to win the Hart Trophy, joining McDavid (2017) and Hall of FamersWayne Gretzky and Mark Me sier. "I found some chemistry with [Kailer Yamamoto] and [Ryan Nugent-Hopkins]. We clicked at the end and had a good run, so that definitely helped," Draisaitl said on a Zoom call with reporters Monday. "The trust [the coaching staff] put in me and getting me out there over and over again, even though I probably didn't deserve it at times, I'm just very thankful for that. I think Connor and I have a very healthy, great competition and relationship and we just try and make each other better every day." James Norris Memorial Trophy Voted on by the PHWA, this trophy goes to theNHL's top defenseman. Finalists: John Carlson (Washington Capitals), Victor Hedman (Tampa Bay Lightning), Roman Josi (Nashville Predators) Winner: Roman Josi The first Swi s-born player to win an NHL award, Josiwas in the top three on all 170 ballots submitted. He finished the season with a career-high 65 points in 69 games and had the longest point streak by a defenseman (12 games: seven goals, 13 a sists) since the Flyers' Shane Gostisbehere's 15 gamesin 2015-16. When the season ended, he was first in shots(260), second in points (65) and a sists (49), tied for second in goals (16) and third inice time (25:47) among defensemen. With Josi on the ice, the Predators had a 53.4 Corsi For percentage, a54.25 Scoring Chances For percentage, an expected Goals For percentage of 54.50 and a93.27 Save Percentage at 5v5 (per Natural Stat Trick). From Jan. 1 to the end of the season, Josi led all defensemen in points (26) while logging more than 26 minutes per game, most among defensemen. "It means a lot. It's definitely a dream coming true,"Josi said ofwinning the trophy. "As a player, the ultimate goal is to win the Stanley Cup but I think personally every year you try to prepare for the season and you try to be the best player you can be. . . .On a personal standpoint, it's always been a dream of mine and it's pretty surreal that I've actually won this and it's definitely, definitely a dream coming true." "Obviously, that's always very important to you personally how the players you play against and players that you battle against every night, how they see you. Getting the appreciation or recognition from their side means a lot to me." Vezina Trophy Finalists: Connor Hellebuyck (Winnipeg Jets), Tuukka Rask (Boston Bruins), Andrei Vasilevskiy (Tampa Bay Lightning) Winner: Connor Hellebuyck Hellebuyck was a workhorse for the Jets in 2019-20. Along with the Canadiens' Carey Price, he led all goalies with 58games played (he finished second with 56 starts) and stood alone at the top in shots faced (1,796), saves (1,656) and shutouts (six). He also ranked second in wins (31) and minutes (3,268:33), and among goalies on the 24 bubble teams, he was second in percentage of wins earned (31 of the Jets' 37, 83.8 percent). He faced37 or more shots in 13 games; he posted a 10-1-2 record and .949 save percentage in those contests. According to , Hellebuyck was one of four netminders (he finished third, at 14.33) to post a Goals Saved Above Average higher than10. "I've tightened up a lot of things," Hellebuyck said when asked how his game has grown and changed over the years. "I think the biggest and most important part is my mind and my mental game. It'sgotten a lot calmer and I only care about the things that I need to care about and I focus on the things that I need to focus on and I've got some experience under my belt."
